Description: The
Air Force Association (AFA) helps provide educational opportunities for
America’s youth. These opportunities were initiated to help ensure that future
generations of Americans: * Appreciate the important role of aviation and space
in America’s future * Have the technical knowledge necessary to understand
aerospace issues * Have the educational background required to pursue aerospace
careers To accomplish their educational goals, the AFA communicates directly
with the American public about the importance of maintaining a sound aerospace
infrastructure and the importance of maintaining a strong Air Force to ensure
national security. Another important part of their educational efforts is to
support the educational objectives of the Air Force and CAP. As part of that
support, the AFA recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of aerospace
education. To support CAP’s aerospace education programs, the AFA provides
aerospace education grants for Civil Air Patrol units. Since 1996, the AFA has
provided over $240,000 to CAP units and teachers to help fund their aerospace
education programs.

Money is not the most significant problem with the failing schools in my city. The biggest problem is classroom discipline. They created a new code of conduct for teachers and students this past year and in that code they permitted students to occasionally talk to their neighbors/friends without penality. If the conversions by a single student occurs more than occasionally the teacher must record each instance and report it to the front office before it can be determined to be excessive and the student can be reprimanded. Now you take a chemistry class with 38 students with each of them permitted to occasionally converse with their neighbor and you have total chaos. You may ask why there are 38 students in a high school chemistry class? And now students even buy thesis. Well, you can't find qualified science teachers that want to teach in a classroom of total chaos. Many of those students are not dedicated to putting forth the effort to learn. Without discipline the dedicated students cannot learn. No one is willing to address this problem with the parent/parents/guardian/community. This is not just happening in my city, I have talket to teachers and former teachers in other cities across the U,S. with similiar stories.
